Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the adaptation process of overseas students in dealing with intercultural communication at FISH Unima. The method used in the research is descriptive qualitative method, the author conducted research at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Manado, with research subjects namely overseas students from several regions studying at FISH Unima. The results of the research on the adaptation process in dealing with intercultural communication of overseas students, namely overseas students must adapt to the campus environment because of the many differences encountered by overseas students while in the campus environment, especially when interacting with friends of different ethnicities and cultures. Therefore, overseas students must be able to adapt and adjust to the situation and conditions in the FISH Unima environment. The way they adapt is by building good relationships with friends despite different backgrounds by not seeing the differences that exist, respecting and appreciating each other and upholding a sense of tolerance. And to be able to communicate well when interacting with friends from different backgrounds, overseas students use Indonesian when communicating in order to understand each other and avoid misunderstandings, another way they do to overcome intercultural communication that occurs among overseas students is by learning Manado language which Manado language is a language that is often used daily in the campus environment, especially in FISH Unima.
