Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe how the dual role of housewives from farming families and how the challenges faced by these women in dealing with their dual role in the household. With descriptive qualitative research methods. The findings of this study are the role of women who can be divided into two major roles, namely the role of breadwinners and household roles (domestic). The role of a breadwinner is a woman who does money-making work to meet the needs of family welfare from an economic aspect. Meanwhile, the domestic role is a woman who only carries out domestic activities within her household area to support the fulfillment of her family's welfare needs from non-economic aspects such as; management of daily needs, house cleaning, child education, washing, and others. This non-economic household role supports welfare, especially in fulfilling health and education needs. In addition, there are challenges faced by women in Padangloang Village to develop their role for improving the welfare of farming families, namely; small employment opportunities, increasingly limited land ownership issues, women's resources, and advances in technological functions.
