Abstract

The increasing number of students playing online games during class hours is one of the factors that can interfere with learning activities as well as have an impact on the character of student discipline. This phenomenon also occurs at Don Bosco Catholic Junior High School Bitung. The formulation of the problems in this study are 1.) What is the negative impact of online games on the disciplinary character of students at Don Bosco Bitung Catholic Middle School ?, 2). What is the role of the teacher in overcoming the negative impact of online games on the disciplinary character of students at Don Bosco Bitung Catholic Middle School? The purpose of this study is to determine the negative impact of online games on the character of student discipline and to find out solutions in overcoming the negative impact of online games on students through the role of teachers in schools, especially at Don Bosco Catholic Middle School, Bitung. The method used is qualitative, which is described descriptively, which is the source of the data according to the research problem, namely the impact of online games on student morale, so the main sources are students, teachers, and parents at Don Bosco Catholic Middle School, Bitung. Based on the results of research and discussion, it is concluded that the negative impact of online games on the character of discipline of students at Don Bosco Catholic Middle School Bitung is very alarming, students are not primarily disciplined in the learning process, even though the teacher has played an active role in fostering discipline in the learning process. Negative online games on the character of student discipline need cooperation between teachers and parents / guardians of students.
