Abstract

This research used quantitative methods with a sample of 187 students covering Classes X and XI at SMA Kristen 1 Tomohon. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between fear of missing out and self-esteem among adolescent social media users at Tomohon 1 Christian High School. This research was structured based on the Likert scale method using the Fear of Missing out scale according to Przybylski, Murayama, DeHaan and Gladwell (2013) which consists of two aspects, namely: Unfulfilled psychological need for relatedness and Unfulfilled psychological need for self. And Self-Esteem According to Rosenberg (1965) which consists of three aspects, namely: Physical Self-esteem, Social Self-esteem, Performance Self-esteem. After analyzing the data, the research results were obtained: there was a significant relationship between Fear of Missing Out and Self-Esteem in Adolescents/Students, namely 0.457 and the percentage of influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable was 0.209. This implies that FoMO contributes 20.9% to self-esteem while the remaining 79.1% is influenced by other variables. So the conclusion is drawn that Hypothesis 0 is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted.
